Wedding Fun

My cousin, Jessica, got married this past weekend and Kristin and Camryn were lucky enough to be her flower girls.

Since they are only 2 1/2 years old, we weren't really sure how well they would do. Would they freeze up? Or ham it up? The first practice run was less than promising. The second run...not so great either. I got some fake petals so they could actually drop them on the ground...and they LOVED that they were being encouraged to drop things on the ground. But, being the little OCD babies that they are, they would stop and either pick the petals back up or arrange them into shapes. Sweet girls.

We arrived very early on the day of the wedding so the girls could get acclimated to the situation and all the bridesmaids. Jessica got the girls the cutest baby dolls to keep them busy in the morning. They love their new babies with real hair! While the girls were playing, we came up with a suitable bribe to encourage the girls down the aisle. Since the girls love animals, and it is almost Easter, my mom picked up some stuffed bunnies as a reward for the girls. We explained to the girls that the maid-of-honor and one of the bridesmaids would hold the bunnies at the front and they had to throw all their petals out of their baskets to get their bunnies back. It totally worked!

Another small key was ME...and I mean me not being visible until after they walked. Walt can get them to do anything - so he started them down the aisle and the bunnies waited for them at the end of their petal throwing. They were a hit (the girls AND the bunnies). They even stood at the front while Jessica was coming down the aisle. Did I mention that I'm super proud of them!?

Getting ready to leave our house - showing off their new yellow shoes that they picked out all by themselves...really...I tried to talk them into a different color, but no way. They actually go with several of their outfits so it was a win-win situation. Thanks for the shoes Aunt Nancy!

A good view of the front and back of their flower girl dresses. Special thanks to my mom for "making" the dresses. We started with plain white dresses from Carter's, then added the sash, flowers at the bottom, white shoes with a blue flower, and the headpieces.

The wedding party hanging out before the ceremony - getting lots of pictures taken
